RICE BOWL APPEAL

Here is the publicity for this year's rice-bowl appeal - as you know this is a Churches Together in Rome initiative - so it is a great way to show some
unity between our Roman churches as well as to help a great charity project - trying to give some young people the tools and training to sustain themselves
and their communities.

I hope you might be able to participate in the fund-raising in your own Bible studies / groups - or put on a fund-raising event - even a very small amount
or money, as you can see from the information can be used fruitfully. If you want to pass any collections to me or to one of the other Churches in the
group - we will make sure the money gets to those who need it without any intermediary charity organisations taking an admin fee.

With thanks,

Mary

The House of Peace Center

Located in the economically depressed region of Rwamagana in Eastern Rwanda, the House of Peace Center has already improved local conditions by bringing electricity and running water to the area where it is located and providing work for local inhabitants.

Although Rwanda has made substantial advances in ensuring access to primary school education, further study is expensive and many young people, especially the rural poor, are unable to continue their studies.  They are thus left with no means of supporting themselves.  This traditionally leads to population shifts toward the cities with all the consequent problems of urban poverty and crime.  Programs that give people the tools to remain in their local communities while supporting themselves and their families create development in rural areas and help ensure that community social structures remain strong.

Flow of funds and accountability

All of the donations will go directly to the Economic Empowerment Projects organized at the Peace Center in Rwamagana without any administrative costs.  Oversight will be provided by the Rt. Revd Alexis Bilindabagabo who is Anglican Bishop of Gahini, the diocese in which House of Peace is located. For more information, have a look at the Uyisenga N'Manzi  website at: http://uyisenga.org.
