Wagner's opera is based on the two Germanic legends of Tannhäuser and the song contest at Wartburg. In this theatrical work, celebrated Belgian artist Jan Fabre presents a surreal and sarcastic vision of our post-capitalist age, using imagery that intends to shock and offend. Inspired by Herbert Marcuse and Pier Paolo Pasolini, he envisions a world in which women are soft-corn porn models and men seem to be fighting a civil war, a world in which to be human is to consume goods.

Niki de Saint-Phalle
A retrospective of more than 100 works by the painter, sculptor, writer and performance artist, marking the first showing of her work in Rome. Jan Fabre - Metamorfosi dell'Artista
( Omaggio a Jacques Mesrine)
New works in video, sculpture, photography and drawing reflect the artist's interest in the human body. These works relate to a performance at the Louvre in 2008 entitled "Art kept me out of jail / Homage to Jacques Mesrine", one of France's most wanted criminals. A violent gangster who claimed to have killed 43 people and staged a jailbreak from every prison in which he was incarcerated.

Signs of harvest, one of the most significant seasons on the Italian calendar, prevail from early to late autumn.  Across the regions of central Italy - Lazio, Tuscany, Umbria and Le Marche -every whiff of  fresh air, the changing textures of the forest and sprawling countryside colored in golden amber and hues of cranberry and aubergine, signal the season.  Locals carry away sacks loaded with chestnuts for uses in regional dishes. Chestnut production ranges from flour, to marmalade, marron glacé, cakes and other sweets. Chestnuts are used to prepare roasts, stuffing and sauces. And simple, roasted chestnuts are a favorite on cool fall and winter nights.
Just thirty to forty  kilometers from Rome, there are woods  abundant with chestnuts and mushrooms. You can spend a weekend foraging the woods for edible species of mushrooms, searching for the wild and wonderful truffle, trekking through the woods, or visiting  local and regional sagre, fairs that celebrate the bounty of the harvest, where unique Italian foods can be sampled. You'll  find chestnut festivals in many towns and villages during November. Restaurants throughout the region offer seasonal regional cuisine highlighting truffles, chestnuts, wild mushrooms and newly pressed olive oil.

Chestnut Festival, Paginico Sabino

Traditional flavors of the region are celebrated in a day dedicated to the celebration of the hot roasted chestnut  in the region where they have been grown and harvested for centuries.The day begins with a guided tour of the Chiesa dell'Annunziata with its fourteenth century freschi and the  historic center (11 am), and continues with hot roasted chestnuts, home made pastas, crispy bruschette, sausages and wine. Stands exhibit local products, and there will be traditional music. €10
Paginico Sabino is in the Sabine hills, in the province of Rieti, about 50 kilometers northeast of Rome.

 

Gioranta dell'olio e del vino , Gallese (Viterbo)

In the historic center of the ancient town of Gallese, eight cantinas will be open, offering a gastronomic trail with traditional music and tastings of the local wines and olive oils. Getting there:  take the Grande Raccordo Anulare to the A1/Firenze exit, to the Magliano Sabina exit and follow the signs to Gallese.

In the ancient cellars of this historic town, nestled in the Appenines, in the heart of a national park, you can taste traditional dishes such as bruschette, and pastas like gnocchetti and tagliatelle flavored with the local truffles, along with displays of typical products- The festival opens on Saturday at 3 pm with tastings, and on Sunday morning, there will be traditional dances and music, and a competition among the dogs who are trained to sniff out the truffles. You can buy local truffles directly from the hands of the expert foragers who find them. Campoli Appennino, which calls itself the city of truffles, is  in the province of Frosinone, 100 kilometers east of Rome.  www.tartufodicampoli.it

open cellars sell typical local products and offer tastings of hot roasted chestnuts. Stands are open Sunday, November 23, and again
Sunday, November 30, when there will also be artisan stands, a tasting route where you can sample away for the price of an €8 ticket from noon on, a re-creation of traditional chestnut production at 3:30 pm, music, and a grand finale spectacle at 6:30 pm. Capranica Prenestina is in the province of Rome, about 30 kilometers east of the city.
