GREAT EVENT WITH TOM SHAKER

Gathered around the fireplace, our monthly meeting turned into a fun and relaxing talk with American actor Tom Shaker who gave us the "behind the scenes view of The Making of the movie The Passion", by Mel gibson.  Mel's objective was not to make lots of money but to try to reproduce, as closely as possible, the last seven days of Jesus' life.  "It's even hard for me to watch it, to be honest with you", said Tom, " because in some scenes it was so cruel and violent, but it's a reality that this is how our Lord was treated".  Every morning Mel gibson made everyone go to Church and Tom got to be an altar boy, as he had some experience from his early childhood.
The son of an italian mother and a Lebanese father, Tom Shaker was born in Ohio and got to Italy about 12 years ago, where he has chosen to live at a walking distance to the Colosseum.  He can be found in various Roman jazz bars with his band Tom and the Cats and he's been compared to Tony Bennet (as well as George Cluny...).  His next  achievements , which he hopes to bring to schools as well as on stage, in a performance which will involve history, archeology, philosophy and the English Language and it's called "Rome: The first three Thousand Years".
Many thanks to Ulla heider for hosting such a fun and interesting event and to all the ladies who helped put together a truly wonderful buffet.
