MAY 20TH RUN THE KOMIN RACE FOR THE CURE

With spring finally here, most people enjoy being outdoors, taking strolls in the streets of Rome and enjoying picnics out in the warm weather,
what better way is there to do this than to join the AWAR HEARTS SQUAD supporting the Susan G. Komen "Race for the Cure" in their fight against breast
cancer.  It is a well-known fact that breast cancer is a constant and deadly killer not only among women, but the fact is, men get breast cancer, too.
It would only make sense to come together in support of the Komen Foundation to find a cure and eradicate this terrible disease once and for all.   The
dates are May 18, 19 and 20. However, it is on May 20th that the "Race" as we like to call it, takes place, is not a true race. If someone so chooses they
can walk, jog, meander, bike or just sit and watch. All that is needed and appreciated is 13 euro minimum and immediately, you will receive a t-shirt.
The application form is easy to fill out. You mark how much you wish to donate, name and email. However, you also need to specify whether you
are a survivor of breast cancer. If you are you will receive a pink (rosa) t-shirt instead of a white one.
This year the two Madrine or Godmothers are Rosanna Banfi, daughter of popular actor Lino Banfi, and a survivor of breast cancer. She will be
the leader of the "Ladies in Pink" and . Maria Grazia Cucinotta, a famous Italian actress who has been involved with the race since its beginning 13 years
ago, will be the leader of the "Women in White" t-shirts. (Maria Grazia is part of the Race for the Cure because her mother had breast cancer.) The whole
event is fun and exciting as people meet old and new friends and walk through the center of Rome. Many people then have a leisurely picnic and enjoy the
company they are in.
From May 18 to 20 The Village (in the Coni Area next to the FAO on via Terme di Caracalla) will be open to collect your "bag of goodies" …also
there will be free screening and medical staff on the premises to provide free medical visits for prevention on May 18 and 19.
The meeting point for AWAR HEARTS is just inside the main entrance to the KOMEN village on Via Terme di Caracalla after passing the drive in
entrance to the FAO.  We will be on the right under the huge elm tree.  You cannot miss us!
This is a huge and important group effort that not only helps people who have had breast cancer or who are currently fighting it, but also want
to inform women on how to check and prevent the cancer before it is too late. If you cannot spare your time that weekend then at least make a donation
in order to help not only today those afflicted with breast cancer  but those of tomorrow as well.
